Tundra climate animals and plants. Tundra is a finnish word which means barren land. Tundra plants grow fast during the summer season. The tundra has short summers lasting from may to july when temperatures only rise to about 50 degrees fahrenheit.

However, many animals have perfectly adapted to the tundra climate. This short time span is the growing season for tundra plants. But some animals like the caribou or musk oxen can eat the lichens and other plants.

The tundra climate offers a brief growing season that encourages low species diversity. Tundra has a very short summer. The tundra is a treeless biome in which low temperatures and short growing seasons limit plant growth above a certain height.

In winter tundra plants go dormant and use it saved moisture and nutrients more efficiently to survive. Although there is sometimes some overlap, each biome is essentially unique in the organisms found there. The animals in the tundra put on heavy coats to adapt to the harsh climate.

While it may seem that the warming of this region would be a good thing for the plants and animals, they have adapted to that specific environment. Tundra form in two distinct cold and dry regions. Although these harsh conditions make the tundra a difficult environment to survive in, there are some plants and animals that have adapted to these conditions.

The animals and plants of the tundra biome have adapted to survive the harsh climate. The tundra region is the coldest biome existing on earth. It would also be highly unlikely to happen upon rainforest animals, such as wild chimpanzees or bengal tigers roaming the frozen tundra.
